DRINK OF LAUGHTER AND FORGETTING

  • 1½ oz. / 45 ml. Cynar

  • ½ oz. / 15 ml. Green Chartreuse

  • ¾ oz. / 22.5 ml. fresh lime juice

  • ½ oz. / 15 ml. demerara syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Angostura bitters mist to garnish

METHOD
add all ingredients to shaker tin / shake with ice until chilled / fine strain into coupe or Nick and Nora / garnish with a mist of Angostura bitters

ABOUT
This cocktail was created by Michael Yusko at Cure (New Orleans, LA) under pressure. Truly, it came together in a rush of improvisation and instinct. As Yusko puts it, “I never worked on a cocktail until there was a gun to my head.” With Cynar as the base, lime juice chosen on a coin toss, and green Chartreuse added on a whim, the drink captures the spontaneity of the moment it was created but landed with the finesse of a modern classic.
